Smart Cybersecurity Techniques to Prevent Security Breaches

Hackers operate in many ways and the two most common ways that are also the most dangerous ones include network scanning and phishing

Network scanning has a unique concept where a hacker uses the internet to look for vulnerable devices that have weak cybersecurity or a lot of bugs. Those systems are then exploited and hacked since hackers find a window to install malware in those systems. The malware infected systems then start scanning other vulnerable systems and the chain of hacked devices gets bigger and bigger.

Phishing, on the other hand, is tricking users into somehow installing a malicious software like a Trojan horse in their system or by creating fake websites to trick users into filling their financial credentials that are instantaneously stolen.

Needless to say, both the ways – network scanning and phishing – are equally dangerous. However, there are ways in which a system can be protected from such threats. If you too want to prevent trojan horse and other malware types from affecting your system, then the following cybersecurity ways are the best options.

  1. Using Firebreaking Technique

Firebreaking is also popularly known as network segmentation. This practice involves splitting one single network into many independent networks and splitting the information (company’s data) into many smaller pieces.

One piece of information is stored/network. What happens in this way is that if hackers breach the security of one network, they are confined to that network only. Other networks cannot be hacked since they are independent of the hacked one. Also, since every network has just one bit of info, hackers aren’t able to steal all the information.

  1. Patching Vulnerabilities

Like we said, network scanning technique focuses on finding vulnerabilities. Which is why it is important to keep patching vulnerabilities from time to time so that they are fixed before a hacker can exploit them to infiltrate your system.

Here’s what you need to do.

  • Delete all old files and software.
  • Install the software updates as soon as they are released.
  • Patch the router manually.

Also, running active scans is an effective way to detect malware.

  1. Managing the Password

The following simple password practices can keep you away from the radar of hackers. Do follow them.

  • The password should have 12-15 characters.
  • Complicate those characters by mixing symbols with numbers and letters in uppercase and lowercase.
  • Create a new password for every device.
  • Don’t reuse an old password.
  • Store the passwords in a password manager app only.

To sum up, the dangers that hackers cause can be avoided by using smart cybersecurity techniques.
